As a short pleated skirt lover, I finally figured out all the styling tips and layering tricks.

So ladies, below are the 12 outfits if you are wondering how you can wear a short, pleated skirt in winter ( Tip#3 is a must-try!), enjoy!

Let’s start with the basic tips, wearing fleece leggings!

During the lazy cold days when you just want to keep things simple, fleece leggings are a no-brainer.

With the dual-layer fabric and brushed interior, it’s really soft to the skin and strong enough to make our legs warm.

When it comes to the material, instead of choosing 100% polyester, you should always aim for at least 10% spandex so as to make sure your legging is elastic enough to move in comfort!

With the tightness of fleece leggings, it goes really well with the pleated short skirt as it creates a smooth silhouette for your legs and makes the lower body look more refined.

With a pair of short boots or chunky sneakers, this is how you look cute with your pleated skirt on cold days!

Despite the fact that over-knee boots are such a classy and fashionable item these days, let’s not forget they can keep us warm.

For me, plain over-knee boots are warm enough.

However, if that’s not enough for you, consider the thigh-high boots with a faux fur layer; this is quite one of a kind, as I don’t see many people wearing those pairs yet.

Another way is wearing long cashmere socks inside the boots.

I’ve tried once, and I end up having to take the socks down as it is way too hot! So ladies, get creative with your over-knee boots!

This hack is just … unbeatable.

Ever since I discovered there’s a product called flesh fleece tights, I realized I wear more short skirts than ever before.

If you don’t know what I am talking about, here are the easy 3 steps illustrated by my favorite blogger, @Kreina.wang <3!

Step 1: Wear the opaque tights first! It won’t give you the “bare leg” effect, but don’t worry, as it’s not the final look!

Step 2: Pick your favorite shade of sheer tights! I’m feeling brown tights lately.

Step 3: Viola – the finished look!

Flesh fleece tights are tights that have a thermal interior to keep your leg warm but a smooth skin tone for the outside.

So when you are wearing the flesh tights with the exact skin tone of your leg, people can’t really tell you are wearing any tights at all.

Another way to style your fleece tights is to coat them with normal black sheer tights; this just instantly makes your leg look slimmer and sexier!

Plus, this is also a clever way to cover flesh fleece tights with the wrong skin tone.

If that’s not warm enough for you, you can always wear a pair of over-knee cashmere socks.

With that, I’m sure it’s more than enough even during the snowing days! (I’ve tested it before)

With my beige silk chiffon pleated dress, I always top a white twill turtleneck and a creamy cardigan on top.

5. Keep the other part of the body warm with thermal material

This tip can’t be more obvious, yet sometimes, we still fail to do that.

Even if you wear something so protectively warm for your legs, if you wear just a round V-neck long-sleeve shirt during freezing days, of course, you will get cold!

Here are some of the ways to keep your body warm:

• Wear a turtleneck to trap the body heat.
• Always wear thermal Heat Tech and thermal garments as a good foundation.
• Wear coats with at least 50% natural fibers like wool to make your coat functional.
• Do the layering to trap the heat.

Ever since I paid more attention to the material of the coat, I just realized many of my baggy polyester coats actually not warmer than the thin wool coat.

So now, I am way warmer without wearing bulky!

I love wearing a similar tone of gloves and hats with my velvet red pleated skirt with a plain black turtleneck and heels, it makes me feel so elegant and put together!

This dress is such a beauty.

From the sequin lace to the intricate rose print to the sleek V-neck, this dress is feminine in a refreshing way.

I am 5’3″ tall and 125 lbs and I am wearing US 6 in this dress.

I’d say UK 6 is a little tight for me because the waistband from this brand is not stretchable at all.

Luckily, this is a tiered dress so even if I feel tight in the mid-section area, the peplum just camouflages it completely!

But still, I’d recommend sizing up for the dresses that come with the waistband design.

After all, there’s no stretchy room at all so better play safe.

2. Self Portrait cut-out beaded bouclé mini dress

From the flattering scoop neck to metallic threading to beaded embellishment, this dress is 10/10.

While some of the cutout dresses in the market can be sexy, this one from Self-Portrait is just perfect.

It’s a perfect blend of cute, elegance, and sassiness and you have no problem wearing this dress alone.

That said, since there’s the cutout on the waist area, I’ll suggest you size up.

I usually wear UK 6 or 8, but this time, I think UK 10 looks better for me.

When buying the cut-out dresses, take into account that your tummy might get bloated after dinner!

3. Self Portrait short sleeve pink knit dress

For their knit dresses, Self Portrait is sometimes labeled as “S M L” rather than UK sizes.

I am wearing Size S and it’s the perfect size for me. (5’3″ 125 lbs)

I love love love this frill dress.

For the knit dress or sweater dress from Self-Portrait, I am wearing a size S. (5’3″ 125 lbs)

As a 5‘3” girl, I love the dress length of this brand – not too short or long in my opinion.

I hate to say that but sorry ladies, mermaid dresses just don’t look universally flattering with all kinds of shoes.

With all the extra layers and complex design, the mermaid dress looks best with sleek pointy shoes.

The modern V line toe design gives out an elongated leg line and makes you look taller visually.

That said, avoid all the chunky shoes.

Not only the obvious ones like the high platform sandals but also the round toe flats and the one with thick stripes.

Trust me, the heels with thick ankle stripes will cut your leg in half and make you look stubby.

If you really insist on striped heels, at least go for the thin stripes or nude heels.

But of course, we all have different figures so this tip is not for everyone.

But if you are a thick-thigh or pear-shaped girl like me, I can tell these little things truly make a HUGE difference!

8. Monotone look for the win

If you want to look put together with minimal effort, monochrome pairing is always here to help.

With a similar shade of hue, not only it can make you look united with your overall outfits, that just makes you look more dressed up as a set.
